Choosing an Evaluator for your Child

Choosing an evaluator is an important decision, especially when you consider the time, effort and financial investment that is involved in getting the answers you need.  Here are some questions to ask when “vetting” an evaluator:

  • Do you have experience providing this type of evaluation?
  • What tests would you use to evaluate my child?  What happens if other concerns come up in the course of testing?
  • How many appointments/testing sessions will be necessary?  What if my child needs breaks?
  • Who will you meet with or speak to when gathering information to include in the report?
  • Do you review any records to help formulate your opinions and recommendations?
  • How long is the evaluation process, beginning with the first appointment to completion of the final report?
