Educational Evaluations:
Gifted & Learning Disorder Determinations
Gifted & Talented
If you and/or your child's teacher suspects that he/she would benefit from a more challenging educational experience, educational testing is the primary means to determine if he/she meets criteria for inclusion. Eligibility determinations are based on a child's intellectual functioning (IQ) and academic achievement.
Depending on your child's school, gifted/talented determinations are available specific to math, reading or a general talent development (TD) program.
Learning disorders
Educational testing is recommended if your child is struggling in a particular subject area in order to determine if he/she qualifies for accommodations and support at school. Learning disorder determinations are particularly important when early-stage interventions are unsuccessful in supporting your child's educational growth. Similar to gifted testing, eligibility determinations are based on a child's intellectual abilities (IQ) in comparison their academic achievement, with particular attention to specific subject areas that may show evidence of pronounced weakness.
Educational evaluations are straightforward and will not address concerns like autism, ADHD or mental health struggles (depression, anxiety, etc.). In general, testing will take approximately 2-3 hours and a full report is available within 2 weeks of testing. Once the report is available, you'll be scheduled to come in to discuss the results and go over any questions or concerns that you may have.
